Are Aliens Real?
What's Your Answer?
If you were asked "Are aliens real?" would you be quick to answer one way or the other, or would you like to think about it?
Most people have a belief about the existence of aliens. Some hold strong opinions one way or the other. Maybe you are one of them.
Perhaps, though, you are the type who likes to have proof before making a decision.
And that can be where some of the trouble can lie. Because it is not always easy to definitely say one way or the other, if you want to rely on proof.
Do aliens exist? Is there evidence of aliens? Is there real proof of alien life? Well....yes, there is proof, as long as you accept it as proof.
Does that sound strange? And why does the simple question. "are aliens real?" cause such problems in answering it?
The answer to that is much easier!
To many people the idea of whether aliens exist or not is made difficult because of what the answer might lead to. So for example, if the answer is 'yes', then it might mean
- that we are not alone and that makes us fearful of others who have not openly showed themselves
- that these aliens might have superior technology and could colonize, kill or enslave us
- asking where does God fit into this?
- that we could be the backward people in the galaxy and that would mean a huge sense of inferiority
- why haven't they contacted us yet?...
- ...which leads to, if they have contacted us, why haven't our governments told us about them? (A whole new level of paranoia!)
In other words, it's not just a simple 'Yes' or 'No' when you answer the question. It involves a lot of other things as well which follow on from admitting to the belief.
'Are aliens real?' brings in problems of UFO evidence, whether UFO's exist and the ongoing search for aliens known as SETI.
Then, of course, there's the whole problem of alien-pictures.
Historically, if you were to ask the Sumerians, they would have no problem answering you!
Think of the question in the same way as you would think of answering 'Do you really and truly love him / her?' Depending on the circumstances, who was asking and a few other things as well, you might not feel at ease giving an honest answer! It's exactly the same with this question. You might give one answer to your close friend and another to your science teacher in front of the whole class, and another one again to someone who shared your interests.
So don't be quick to condemn someone who answers 'No' because they might just not be in a place where they feel comfortable enough to be really open about their insecurities. Likewise, if someone just blurts out 'Yes' to the question, 'Are aliens real?' then maybe they really do, and then again, maybe they just want to feel safe or secure or like having wild ideas.
How would you know who was telling the truth? Ah! We're back to proof again!
When it comes right down to it, does it really matter what other people think, as long as you are convinced of your own beliefs?
You can use this website to poke around some of these ideas and test them out for yourself. The one thing I think I can guarantee is that it's going to be interesting listening to you denying that aliens have had any influence on us.
To start with, you might like to see what others have said when asked the question, 'Do aliens exist?'.
If you ask me 'Are aliens real?', no prizes for guessing my answer!
